The Amazon Climate Pledge Friendly Badge: What It Means
If you've shopped for Boxiki products on Amazon recently, you might have noticed a small green leaf icon on some of our listings. It's the Climate Pledge Friendly badge, and today we want to explain what it actually means — because we think it matters more than most people realize.
What Is Climate Pledge Friendly?
Amazon's Climate Pledge Friendly program highlights products that meet one or more sustainability certifications. These aren't certifications that Amazon invented — they come from trusted third-party organizations that independently verify environmental claims. In our case, the certification comes through ClimatePartner, which we've been working with since early 2022.
When you see the Climate Pledge Friendly badge on a Boxiki product, it means the carbon footprint of that specific product has been calculated, verified, and offset through certified climate projects. It's not a vague promise. It's a measurable, traceable commitment.
How Our Products Earn the Badge
The process is more involved than you might expect. It begins with a full lifecycle assessment — mapping every source of carbon emissions from raw material extraction to manufacturing, packaging, shipping, use, and end-of-life disposal. For a silicone baking mat, that means accounting for the energy used to produce the silicone, the emissions from the factory, the fuel burned by the cargo ship crossing the Pacific, the truck that delivers it to Amazon's warehouse, and eventually the last-mile delivery to your door.
ClimatePartner works with us to gather this data, verify it against established methodologies, and calculate the total carbon footprint in kilograms of CO2 equivalent. Then we purchase offsets from certified climate projects — projects that reduce or remove an equivalent amount of carbon from the atmosphere.
Each certified product gets a unique ClimatePartner tracking ID. You can enter this ID on ClimatePartner's website and see exactly which project your purchase supported, how much CO2 was offset, and details about the project itself. Full transparency, no hand-waving.
Why Does This Matter?
We'll be straightforward: carbon offsets are not a perfect solution. There's legitimate debate about whether offsetting truly "neutralizes" emissions or whether it lets companies off the hook for reducing their actual footprint. We've wrestled with this internally, and here's where we landed.
Offsets alone aren't enough. But for a small consumer products company that ships goods across oceans, there's a limit to how much we can reduce our emissions right now without completely changing our business model. What we can do is measure honestly, offset what we can't yet eliminate, and commit to reducing our baseline over time.
The Climate Pledge Friendly badge is a signal to you, our customers, that we're taking this seriously. It's not greenwashing — it's backed by third-party verification and transparent tracking. And it's part of a larger commitment to sustainability that includes reducing packaging waste, choosing responsible suppliers, and continuously improving our environmental performance.
Which Products Are Certified?
Currently, our Climate Pledge Friendly certified products include our most popular Boxiki Kitchen silicone baking mats, our Boxiki Travel RFID-blocking sleeves, and several items from our Boxiki Kitchen line. We're working to expand certification across our full catalog throughout 2023.
Next time you're shopping on Amazon and see that little green leaf, we hope you'll feel good knowing that behind it is a genuine effort to do better. It's not everything, but it's something real.
